diazepam - any one taken this for dental treatment?

does it really calm you down? have been prescribed some to take just before treatment. anyone else have experience of this? what does it feel like?

    it's regularly given in hospitals before patients go for surgery - to calm pre op nerves, it really does work. it is also given given as a sleeping tablet but probably in much higher strengths. i used to take it for depression and an anxiety disorder.

    it just makes you feel calm.

    I wouldn't worry - it's also given for people who are afraid to fly

    yep had it about a year ago.cant even remember having them taken out!!!

    hi
    i am a doctor i do know that diazepam is prescribed, sometimes before dental treatment. but i would strongly recomend talking to your GP before this.

    My sister used to have to have diazepam before any dental work as she was a very nervous patient. All it did for her was calm her down and make it much easier to relax. Then she had a couple of hypnotherapy sessions and now she self hypnotises herself and doesn't need the drugs to calm down any more. She was incredibly scared of the dentist though and one day felt she needed to do something to control her fears.

    In that case, is it ethical for you to recommend a course of action for a health matter on a public website ?

    they actually recommended seeing their gp BEFORE taking it............... highly ethical imho.
