Update: A forced restart seems to have completed the install ok. It's reporting as IE11, all my favourites seem intact and seems to be running ok.
The only weird casualty I've detected so far is that my Desktop Gadgets Clock, CPU Usage, Weather) are no longer rendering properly ... they look like text boxes rather than graphics. I've tried deleting them then opening them afresh from the gadgets box but whilst they look perfect in the Gadgets box, once dragged to the desktop they fail to render properly again. Any ideas?
ETA: Think I've found the answer to the Gadgets issue.
1.) It seems Microsoft have stopped supporting them because they were deemed to be a security vulnerability and have now been dropped from latest releases of software, but ...
2.) They are still available in Windows 7 after the IE11 upgrade but they will only show properly on the desktop if your display DPI is set to 100% (Control Panel > Display DPI). If it's set to anything larger (mine was set to 125%) then the Gadgets will either not display properly or as in the case of the Clock, will not display at all. This is clearly a bug in IE11 relating to text display size but whether Microsoft will bother to fix it given their stance in 1 is doubtful IMHO.... Yep, see my post above. Thanks for the info re forced restarts often clearing the blockage ... it worked.
IE11 is now working beautifully and it is noticeably faster in all respects than IE10. Shame about MS discontinuing the desktop Gadgets, I liked those, but hey ho.... Just spotted another curious change. If I compose a message in MSE as I am doing now, I cannot simply click on an emoticon to add it ... I now have to right click on the emoticon, copy it, then paste it into the message.
Is this an issue with my setup or something MSE Towers need to address for the new browser?

I use Chrome with IE10 as a reserve and one thing IE certainly does better is play videos with sound without aggravation. Chrome has (and this i not new) a number of problems playing sound correctly.0

IE 11 not playing nicely with Barclaycard website. Everything you click on the website creates a script error.
Just phoned Barclaycard Internet (no bleeding) Help Desk who first said I must have a virus, then eventually told me they do not support version 11 and I should use IE 7 or 8. What a joke, no idea at all.
Ended up asking them just to inform someone who has half a clue what they are talking about in the compute department, that they need to check IE 11 compatability with scripts.0 -

Thankfully my bank HSBC is on the ball and IE11 works perfectly in their online banking. I've also checked various Building Societies I save with and no problems to report with any of them either.
I've still got minor issues with MSE ... Emoticons still have to be copied and pasted, the strike-through button doesn't work and sometimes when I'm composing a message it refuses to acknowledge the return key so I can't start a new paragraph.
I would have thought the MSE webmaster should have sorted out these by now.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0
