I believe you have to have a minimum of two directors by law but that isn't the point here which is that Van Morrison didn't get paid for the gig. Only the cost of band and crew wages were covered along with equipment hire.

Van did do it for free. £36,000 is be a long way off what his normal fee would be and there was the cost of band, crew and equipment to take into account. These people didn't get the freedom of the city and depend on this work to make a living.

Conscious that this isn't the point, but for a Ltd company you can have just one director, PLC's must have a minimum of two.
