so the council awards Van the freedom of the city, they get the taxpayersto fund free tickets for themselves and 500 of their closest friends. and Van and his associate get £36,000 to play in their own honor. Is it not a nutshell of how corrupt politics is in this place?

Saw him in Torquay a few years ago, never again. It was obvious that he didn't want to be there and did the minimum effort possible. Totally ignored the audience and walked off stage at the end of his dreadful performance without a backward glance, money for old rope comes to mind. Hope you have a better time than we did.

Delusions of grandeur comes to mind, think they forget who put them there in the first place, fortunately there's plenty of new talent that can easially replace them. There again saw Barbara Dixon a couple of weeks ago and you couldn't have wished for a better performance.

In that case why wasn't there a charge for the tickets so that these poor 'working people' get paid by the people who actually benefit from their services? :mad:

Alternatively they could have got some up-and-coming band who would have played for a much lesser price or maybe even free.
