van morrison concert at waterfront

Anyone going to Van's 'Freedom of the City' concert on Friday night? I picked my tickets up today and they are marked 'Standing Area'.

Now while I'm grateful to get a free ticket for Van's concert I'm a bit taken aback to find out that I'll have to stand especially as my OH is in a bit of pain at the moment thanks to her dodgy back.

Was just wondering if anyone else had had a look at the tickets and if anyone actually knows if the seating is being removed. It seems a bit odd having the audience standing - after all its not as if its going to be a teenage audience.

I did phone the Waterfront but they know nothing as its a City Council event.

Bet the Councillors don't have to stand!!

Apparently there was a draw for tickets and some pairs were seated and some standing. It was just the 'luck of the draw' which anyone got. But as you say no doubt the 500 allocated to councillors and guests will be for the seated area.;)

Thanks for the answer jeffer - seems a strange decision to have standing at this type of event but then again its a Belfast City Council decision so nothing should surprise.

The Waterfront, of course, which is owned and operated by the City Council. Seems slightly odd that Council employees wouldn't know anything about an event being organised by their own employers...

Well no, actually it doesn't seem odd. Nothing surprises me anymore.

It was stated in the advertising of the event:-

A computerised draw will take place to ensure a spread of people from different parts of the city are in attendance. Successful applicants, who will receive two tickets each for either a standing or seated area, will be notified via email or phonecall on Wednesday, 6 November.

well, if anybody has standing tickets and doesn't fancy it, i'll gladly take them off your hands. am desperate to see this show - entered every member of my family into the draw and nothing. going to start a rates strike in protest!

Can't stand the man, I wouldn't go if you paid me! But good luck to anyone who wants a ticket, I hope you get one.

It has now emerged that although Van is doing the concert for free his company are being paid £36,000 for it!

Yes,I see one councillor in this mornings paper saying "what if it does cost a few quid,hes worth it." what he means is what if he does cost the ratepayers £36,000,I got my 4 tickets free and tough luck you didnt.
