Retrieving Whatsapp old conversations

While updating Whatsapp I uninstalled it 1st to free up more space. Then I did the update, but my old conversations have been dispensed to a folder: whatsapp/database/msgstore.db.crypt. 
I've opened the folder up and the text is in sort of hieroglyphics, unreadable. How do I unencrypt it? I press "encoding" and there is a big list like: UTF-8, macintosh, windows-1250, x-JavaUnicode etc etc. Would finding the right one of these unencrypt or do I need to download an app to do this?
If it makes any difference I'm using android version 4.0.3.

I'm after one piece of info on the chats, and if retrieved the whole lot can go into oblivion after that.0 -
You need Whatsapp Xtract, ActivePython, and PyCrypto.
Once you have them installed on your PC, copy the msgstore.db.crypt. file over to your PC and away you go.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -

Thank you. But I don't think I will away I go, as there's 3 different programs to download :eek: (way to complex & time consuming for a non-techie like me). Any simpler way, whats all the encoding stuff I mentioned about?0 -
