Help Gear box gone on 2nd hand car after 6 weeks

On an Astra the gearbox and engine are pretty much one unit, so it seems unlikely that just the gearbox would fall out.
Are you sure it's not just a failed engine mount?
That warranty company sounds very dodgy. I suggest you write to as many consumer action website, TV & radio shows etc to embarrass them into paying out.
I had an issue with the DVLA a few months back and ended up being interviewed by Radio 4 about it. Needless to say, the DVLA issue was suddenly an issue no more.0 -
Erm, what about those manufacturers who provide a 6 year warranty
I think a lot depends on the mileage as well. Your 2 year old car may do more miles that your wife's Clio which could make all the difference.
My car will do about 50k a year and already has 92500miles on it.
These long warranties are usually technically not manufacturers warranties but "dealer warranties" and subject to the need for full franchised dealer servicing.
Honest John I believe made mention of this in the case of Kia I believe.
Though I am certain that the 3rd year of my Subaru Legacy warranty was a dealer warranty but I don't have the car any more to check though as it was a long time ago it might be wrong. I know Cyprus imported Subarus had a Manufacturers warranty which was two years so I am sure I am remembering correctly.0 -
Yeah... i've been in the game myself and you are kind of contradicting yourself here because you go on to say this;
Then you say this;
Just to help you out.
I have said a 5 yr old car is oldish and the post you are picking at is the explanation of my opinion not my original post.
The last time I checked a 5 yr old car would be a 2008.
And a 2006 would actually be 7 yrs old.
I suggest that the two year difference between the two vehicle ages would indicate that I am in no way contradicting myself.
Nice to see the forum is still full of pedants.0
