Work and Preschool Hours

Options
How do you juggle it?

I could ask Nan's to pick DS up.
Or
I could ask work for shorter hours.

but each option has downfalls so I wondered what you do?

The final option is to leave him in nursery till Primary School but the hours are almost similar then too!

Personally I prefer to ve self reliant, so I would pay for someone to do it, that way I would not be reliant on favours. (And have the kind gran as back up in case the childminder was ill.)

Thanks Gigglepig, I've heard though that most childminders charge for the whole day even if they just do pick ups!

It is, but if they are collecting a pre school child it means they are taking the place of someone they could have all day. It also means they are going back and forth to the preschool to drop and collect.

Ps I did a combination of child at crèche full day or me off and them at preschool.

Many do for the pre-school/nursery years as they are restricted by numbers and ages so can not take another child but it depends. My friend sent her son to PM nursery and the agreement she had with her CM was that she paid from the time she dropped her son off in a morning until the time he was dropped off at nursery (1pm). Friend finished work in time to pick him up at 3.30pm. It was a term-time only contract as CM only available then so the issue of school hols didn't arise.

What are the hours pre-school or nusery are offerring and what are your work hours? The nursery attached to the school mine attended now offer 2.5 days, either Mon, Tues plus Wed am or Wed pm, Thurs, Fri. Children attend a lunch-club in-between am and pm session. I'd have loved the option of those hours for mine
  • Our preschool offers after school club. It's on the primary school site in a separate building and primary kids go too. On the says i work I drop my daughter at the school, my son at the preschool and then pick them both up from the after school at preschool club. Maybe see if the preschool has any arrangements like that?

Grandparents have my son 1 day a week. Next year when they are both at school I'm considering asking if they would like to pick up one day a week and have the kids for tea. If i do I'll keep one day at after school club as you can often add extra sessions which would be handy if the grandparents couldn't do it one week.

Such a juggling car isn't it!
