Banba's Crown is the Northermost part of the Island of Ireland, it is in the republic.

Rockall does not belong to Ireland or England though ;)

Referring to Ireland as Southern Ireland or Eire is a British thing.

Ireland is a fully independent nation and a member state of the EU. It no longer defines itself in terms of its relationship with the UK and deserves to be called by its proper name

Yes, Ireland is an independent state and has been for a long time. So why get het up about what some foreigners call you? Did Germans bother that foreigners referred to East and West Germany? Do the Koreans get worked up that people often use the terms North and South Korea which are also not technically accurate? Are the citizens of the Netherlands protesting on the streets that many British people are unaware that Holland is only one Dutch province?

    Crikey.

A mistake over a Ryanair flight leads to a thread that ends up discussing the sovereignty of Rockall.

If there's any oil nearby, it's British. If not, let the Danes, Icelandics and Irish fight it out.

(I'd never realised Holland and Netherlands were not the same thing. Similarly, it took getting an exam question wrong to understand Ulster and Northern Ireland weren't identical).

    Two provinces not one.

And known, funnily enough, as North Holland and South Holland :)

OK, likelyfran, you seem to be the only poster who actually believes that this flight wasn't on the departures board and that the OP was not at fault because she didn't go to the right gate.

The OP is looking for help.
So far, she's not had much advice on where to go from here because other posters don't believe she has been 'screwed over' by Ryanair (or maybe Air Berlin or Stansted airport).

You've stuck up for her and done some pretty nifty throw backs to posters (mainly me) who've continued to say they think she is wrong - albeit not actually proving or providing anything that will help the OP.

I'm sure she's really happy that you stuck up for her but maybe now is the time to stand up and give the OP some valid, constructive advice about what her next steps should be in this situation.

If I was as convinced as you are that the OP is right, I would be posting as much advice as I could to help her get her money back from Ryanair instead of debating the situation with other posters who have a different opinion to me.

    The OP needs you, likelyfran.

    Over to you. ;)

Nah, I don't have to do anything - sorry!
I'm merely pointing out the holes in some of the retorts to the OP's original post.
I actually take exception to the fact that someone comes on here to ask for help and they get told, instead, that they're either 1) thick or 2) lying.
Thing is, the posters who have done this here, haven't actually provided any real backup for doing that - nobody has 'proved' that the OP was wrong/thick/lying.
I think you'll find that responding to OPs as many have done here, is totally against the ethos and 'rules' of MSE.
If someone can provide a screenshot of the screen ON THE DAY - fine. BUT THEY HAVEN'T. Just lots of opinions and surmising.
Seems that people can't take logic or admit they're wrong and they will keep chundering on - I'm bored now, go for your lives!

You are talking out of your bottom!!!

As an Irish person I never refer to the Republic as Southern Ireland- its British people who do that.
None of my friends or family use any of those, we all say we are from Ireland. And if pressed will say the Republic.

Erm, as an Irish person myself, with family in both the North and the South, I think I can tell you that with your above post, you are wrong, extremely rude, and also talking absolute !!!!!!

    Hogwash.
No Irish person describes their country as Southern Ireland.Ever.
    It's Ireland.
Have you ever heard anyone describe England as Southern UK ?

It's really quite funny all the people telling an Irish person what people do and don't say in Ireland. Bet half of them aren't even Irish themselves. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::T
