I have a HP CQ61 - 310SA laptop, which is dead
was OK yesterday
When I press the power button, with or without the AC adaptor in the 3 LED lights flash for about 5 secs, that's it.
I've removed the battery, tried to boot up with just the AC adaptor, but nothing happens.

I'm hopeless with technology, in addition, I suffer with MH issues, what may appear simple, I struggle with, may I ask, please be patient, thank you

Did anything change to do with the laptop yesterday?Better to keep silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

No, I closed the programmes I was viewing, then start > shut down.

Presumably nothing's been split on it or it's been dropped recently?
Sometimes these things can take a while to show their symptoms.
Failing that - if it's 4 years old as Amazon suggests - the first thing to do would be read these to see if they help:

Failing that - I can advise how to get data off it to save any stuff you might want to keep. You'll need to be prepared to use a screwdriver on it though.Better to keep silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I had something similar on my Toshiba laptop the other week. It wouldn't power up but certain leds came on at various points. I 'fixed' it by removing the power lead and the battery and leaving it for a good few hours, then reconnected the power lead. It powered up fine then and I did an immediate backup of all my files (which I do regularly anyway). Give that a go.0 -
they have a help page at HP

If the 3 flashes is correct in indicating a memory issue, try 1 RAM at a time (I think you have 2x1GB modules?)
EDIT: also, have you tried the "hold power button for 30secs" trick? (without battery); then try the power button again.0 -
