Definitely ask for the money back on cab and meal, and also insist on compensation and on saying how upset it has made you. If I were you I'd post it on the PR company FB page as well as the restaurant - really, booking a restaurant for a competition winner is not a difficult job at all and they have been very unprofessional. Either that or the restaurant have been unprofessional and not taken notice of/forgot the reservation, but that's something for the PR company to deal with.

Many thanks for all your replies, I had copies of all the e-mails from the PR company with me, but they said as they had no information about it there was nothing they could do. I will send the e-mail tonight and perhaps ask for some sort of compensation. Hopefully they will get back to me, the worst thing is I had already doubled checked with them that they had booked the table and they confirmed that it was all sorted!

The fact that you double checked makes your case even stronger I would defintely ask for compensation,so sorry this happened on your anniversary
  • As far as we're aware there is only one Blue Elephant I know it has recently moved locations to Imperial Wharf so I am sure we had the right one.....now that would be embarrassing if not!!

what a horrible thing to happen was the comp posted here-i would definitely contact for comp as for the restrant though tbf at the moment we dont know if it was their fault or the pr so maybe hurling abuse on fb isnt the way to go
    What goes around-comes around
  • So sorry about your horrible experience. I hope you manage to get it sorted - I would have been fuming/upset/embarrassed all at the same time!! It's not your fault at all though - I'm sure you had the right restaurant, and I'm disappointed that they didn't do more to try and help you... That's not great customer service.. And the fact that so many people read these forums, not a great review for them either!

  • Awful thing to happen and you definitely deserve an apology, a meal and reimbursement of travel costs to the restaurant. Get Ediwn Mutton involved because the PR company involved are not fulfilling their side of the contract with the people paying them. They are paid to make companies/products/hotels/restaurants etc look GOOD and persuade more people to spend money. In this instance, they have tarnished the reputation of the restaurant and I can't imagine the Blue Elephant will be overly impressed either.

It highlights the importance of ALWAYS contacting everyone to do with a win and never letting PR companies deal with everything.

We won a trip to Rome with two nights B&B in a 5 star hotel and our flights. After getting confirmation from the PR company, I then contacted both the hotel chain AND the hotel manager direct to get written confirmation of our booking and what it included.

When we arrived at the hotel they asked me for my "voucher" that confirmed my stay was free. I was really glad that I had an email confirmation from the hotel manager with his name on it as I certainly didn't have a "voucher"!

I also arranged with the PR company that I would book my own flights and they would reimburse me the cost - because I wanted complete control of it all after reading some of the horror stories on here.

I am not blaming the OP in any way for what happened - the only reason I went so OCD about printing off confirmations is because I've seen it on this forum too many times - remember that poor chap and his girlfriend who were nearly stranded in Amercia recently after the PR people hadn't paid for their flights!

  • Well I have sent the PR co my e-mail and i will see what they say.

Purplebutterfly we have deffo learnt from this experience and will always get things confirmed in writing from each establishment in future.

I won't post anything on Blue Elephants FB page as although I felt their manager was quite rude I understand that they cannot give a meal away for free especially if they have not been advised by the PR co.

    I will keep you updated.

Thanks again for all your replies xx

I would deal solely with the PR people rather than badmouthing the restaurant at the moment. Until you have more info, the restaurant may be completely blameless.

If you complain with the facts about what happened and how you felt on your special day then the PR company should (if they have any sense of customer service) reimburse you for your costs and send an apology element too. Their liability probably only extends to covering you being out of pocket but they have a moral responsibility to do that little bit more imo.

Quick question, was there a third party offering the competition or was the comp direct from the PR company? You should cc your emails to the original competition people as well as the PR firm who is managing the prizes iyswim?
Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!
  • Oh no what a horrible thing to happen, and so sorry that it has ruined your wedding anniversary. I would feel like I wanted compensation too. Fingers crossed that they come back with a way to rectify the situation very soon...good luck, let us know how you get on.
