Does anyone know or has experience of signing up for the new high speed fibre services and know if this higher speed applies to the speed over wifi when using a tablet, laptop or smart phone.

Well it depends - if your WiFi is capable of ~ 80Mbps and your broadband only delivers 2Mbps then yes moving to fibre will indeed improve your WiFi speeds.
If, otoh, you have some antique WiFi kit and an obstructed path giving you only 10Mbps but your current ADSL is running at 12Mbps then upgrading to fibre won't improve anything unless you upgrade the WiFi as well.
In short the two are not 100% related and your speed will depend on the slowest link in the chain.0 -
I have a cheapy tablet and it will do 4Mb down and 8Mb up. Something wrong there i think.
Should be much higher downloading compared to the upload.
On my phone i can get 18Mb up and 43Mb down. Where on the cables i can get 20Mb up and 73Mb down.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
For the best experience with fibre on wireless devices you need the wireless N protocol. This means both the router and decice must be N supported.
You can google "does x support wireless n?" Usually gives you the answer. However if unsure post the devices here, myself or others will advise you.0 -
