The iPhone 4S is 3 years old, Apple historically have tended to drop support for devices after the 4 to 5 year mark.

The 5C came out this year, and is likely to be current for longer, which means the device should have a longer supported lifetime.

The device will still work after support ceases, you jsut won;t get OS or security upgrades, as well as your daughter being able to use the apps that need hardware that was not in the 4S.

so pleased to see this as was thinking about one for my 12 year old son. He uses instagram and texts friends and likes playing on games. He has a phone to keep in touch when he is out but rarely uses it!
I have a couple of questions - apparently you can send text messages (if you are in a wifi area). Can these be sent to his friends phones or just to other apple devices? Can they text him on his ipad from their phones? (So does the ipod have a number? sorry that probably sounds really thick but i'm not good at this stuff!!)
Also I'm not sure how many of the games he plays on need internet once they have been downloaded? Suppose I'd need to suss out what games he plays on for anyone else to be able to answer that one!!!
