Would you pass a DFT Driving Test?

  • I recently helped teach my son (3 years ago) and my daughter (1 month ago) to drive, and I would definately pass my test, if I knew I was taking it. If there was a spy camera in the car, and a 'insurance box' I'd be banned tomorrow.

In fact whilst researching insurance for them, I read the T&C's on a black box, and decided that it would be a bad idea.

For God's sake be careful flashing headlights outside the UK.

In almost every case it means 'Look out - I'm coming through.' or 'I'm going first.'

No way can it be taken as 'After you.'

Lots of UK drivers on their first trip across the channel waiting to exit a junction, get a foreign vehicle flash lights as it approaches meaning 'Stay back I have right of way.'

You'll have guessed what happens next - the UK driver pulls out in front of the foreigner and both think the other is at fault.

Flashing headlights should have the same meaning as blowing your horn - only to make your presence known - that's all.

Having said that - it's common practice - both sides of the channel - just they mean different things.

Yup, and in Arabesque nations it means "I'm about to do something unexpected" like an overtake or coming out of a blind junction.

In daylight I tend to wave at people rather than flash, as that should be clearer.

45/50. No doubt that will soon drop well below 43 as I'm about to purchase this...
