Following on from the poll are you a good driver and seeing the response levels it prompted me to make a debate and poll.
For me a theory test and practical tests are like MOT's its a certificate issued on a day to say you failed or passed to the required levels in order to be competent to drive unsupervised on public roads just like the MOT that tests for the fitness of the vehicle to be on the road but its only a cert that says that at that moment the car was fit, it may get 2 feet out the mot center and be completely un roadworthy through having a 6 inch nail punch through the tire.
how many people thought it so difficult at the time of their test that they got so drained the moments after passing or failing that they could have slept for a week due to knowing that they are being monitored constantly about their driving abilities for an hour.
I for one know that in reality that I may not pass another test if were in a position to take it again but that's not to say I would not have a good darn go at it.
now thinking of what I just said comparing the test to the MOT test would that make me Poor standard of driving ability completely all the time every time if I failed? or just say that my abilities at that moment didn't meet the required level of standard set out in the test sheet, OR if I passed I MUST be a "good driver"? ive been driving 12 years, I don't call myself anything to do with driving as there nothing to compare to, I find it odd that people would class themselves and compare their driving abilities.
so what do you guy reckon would you pass a test and would you "class yourself" if you passed or failed.

Yes i would pass. BUT.. i would be in learner mode all the way through and not how i would normally drive.
Extra tests for HGV etc has taught me more than the basic car test did. And years of fixing cars and driving a wide range of them also.
Makes me smile when people say i cannot drive my car the power steering has gone. Its heavy yes but it still works and steers the car safely.
All drivers are now wimps from improvements. Wind a window up and down as you drive? I wonder how many people would veer across the road doing that?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Put everyone in a Citroen 2CV, and lets sit back and have a good laugh

I had a go at one of those practise DVDs, and failed the Hazard Awareness a few times.
Not because I'm not aware, but because I'm so used to driving that I didn't even notice they were hazards.
e.g. Heavy goods vehicle is a hazard because it needs more space to manoever (so blindingly obvious I don't even think about it, as if I would try to get up the inside of one at an island!)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I'd say yes as you would just get into test mode.
We know how to drive/control a car much better than as learners and have the confidence we didnt have when we were learning.
If I passed I would consider myself to be someone that had to sit a test and passed. No better or worse than I was before it.
If I failed, I would class myself as unlucky. Again, no better or worse.
Theory test? Should be ok too. 100% for motorbike paper and 80 odd % for Hazard Perception part in 2007, I've recently been practicing the LGV theory test and in around 25-30 attempts, I only failed the first one.0 -

47/50 after 30 years driving (and never taking a theory test). There are a few ambiguous answers and a lot of obviously wrong answers.0 -
I had to sit my car theory and practical test in March when I started my new job, obviously its not technically official as I passed years ago, but my employer requires you to go through it on a three yearly basis if you are driving pupils including going to a medical every three years as well.0

I passed my m/cycle, car & both HGV tests first time & I also recently passed the online Theory/Hazard perception tests (my boy was taking his driving test so I had a go)
Would I pass any of the driving tests now? Not a hope in hell
Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
I think the point here is the same as it always has been regarding driving tests of any type.
You first learn to pass the test - then you learn to drive.

Having taken my partner and step daughter through their tests in the past few years, I've answered yes (I taught them to drive "as I do" and they passed).
The only caveat on that is I'm assuming the examiner would be aware that I'm not a new driver, so would allow for slightly faster (and decisive) decisions and not assume it was recklessness / overconfidence.0 -
I did the hazard perception test DVD and failed the first attempt. When I reviewed the results I had spotted the danger and clicked before the scoring had started.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
