  • This thread made me smile as it was only yesterday that I had to tell my son to close the back door after he came in. TWICE!!

You are the only qualified toilet roll changer in this house.....that's what DD1 told me so it must be true :)

At least when I change it I don't pick it to death to get it started, leaving the floor looking like its got dandruff.

As I sadly now live on my own I would give my eye teeth to have my late OH around as messy as he was at times .

    Ditto.

OH in a nursing home, sons grown up, no grandchildren yet.

I sit in my pristine, immaculate, tidy home - with all the appropriate doors shut:rotfl: and think how lovely it would be to have some noise, clutter and the odd draught from an open door.

What's that old saying "Be careful what you wish for".

Families are messy, unruly and untidy. Enjoy them whilst you can.

The time will come soon enough when your carpets will stay clean, your laundry basket will be half empty, and you get to control the lights and doors....
  • I have enjoyed reading this thread, I share most of these common rants and I too have turned into my mother! My daughter (who has 5 children, the eldest is 11) recently said she thinks she`s turning into me!
My son lives at home again, and his daughter (14) spends half her time here - doing most of the little messy annoying things folks have mentioned. But, she has SO many lovely positive things about her I am reluctant to rant, though I do nag at times when I have to.
  • Is it an evolutionary thing do you think that men seem to be able to open drawers and wardrobes but not able to close them again? also they don't seem to be able to open laundry baskets to put pants and socks in, or screw lids back on to toothpaste tubes, it's a mystery as I thought they'd got the opposible thumbs too??? am I wrong???

I think we must be! :D

Who teaches Husbands the line 'in a minute', that minute never seems to arrive.

Shoes put away is another problem we have here, we have a shoe cupboard, DH and I share the top draw, eldest DD underneath and youngest DD has the bottom one, they keep taking their shoes off and leaving them next to the shoe box

Solution: dump them all in a bin-bag, hide it somewhere and tell them you've thrown them all out. And will continue to do so until they've learned.

The shoes are strategically placed right behind the front door in our house to ensure that:

    a) anyone trying to open the door from outside will fail
    b) when carrying the laundry basket you will fall over them

They are always carefully laid out 30cm away from the shoe stand.

:rotfl: at the foot of the stairs is another favourite place and like you, when carrying arms full of washing, you trip over them.

School bags thrown on the floor in the hallway, or a level books left scattered all over the dining room table.

I will miss them when they are gone though, Lessonlearned is so right, we do need to enjoy our kids whilst they are here. They drive me bonkers most days but would I be without them....NO :D
