Nexus 5 cheaper on contract or buy outright?

Sorry to start a new thread, but I don't want to review the phone or talk necessarily about a specific offer (although I've used phones4u as an example!)
Currently I have a talkmobile £5 per month SIM only with 100 mins, 100 sms, 100 MB.
So the Nexus 5 costs £299 + £9.99 delivery = £308.99 outright from Google Play.
I am very tempted by the phones4u offer (which might be only "vapourware" i.e. never with ever be in stock) is only £16.99 for 24 months on Orange with 500 mins, unlimited sms, 250 MB data. So 24 x £16.99 = £407.76. Over 24 months the extra cost of the contract above and beyond the purchase price is £407.76-£308.99 = £98.77 over 24 months is only £4.11 per month. So a good deal, aside from the lock-in for 2 years, and assuming phones4u ever get them back in stock.
No similar tariff is available from Orange directly, but if the billing comes from Orange, hopefully you get all the perks like Orange Wednesdays. Hopefully as a Nexus device, it won't come with any crappy apps from Orange installed!

The contract is directly with Orange.
P4U supply the phone.
BTW, TCB pay £105 cashback for P4U contract phones.0 -

I wonder how many people have been caught out by that.0
