Low volume on freesat HHD box

Hi All,

I've got a cheap Bush HHD freesat box and the only way I can hear the sound is if I turn up the volume on my tv from #8 to #36, which when I then swap to watch a DVD/Now TV etc I have to turn it back down so it doesn't blast our ear drums!
Its connected via a HDMI cable and I've gone through the settings on both TV & freesat box but I can't see anything that would alter this.

I used to have sky and didn't have a problem with that so wondering if anybody has a solution or any advice? Or is this just how it is with freesat boxes?

Thanks

Phil

It most certainly shouldn't be like that.

Is there an option to connect to your TV via scart or component to check if they're the same?

I had a problem with an HDMI cable once which was resolved by simply reversing the cable (ridiculous but true).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

When the volume setting on the TV is 8 what is the volume setting on the Freesat receiver?
Second question, when the volume setting on the TV is 36 what is the volume setting on the receiver?
  • Hi, Thanks for the replies,

Heinz: I've tried a scart cable and a different HDMI cable into a different port on the TV and still the same.

Scotsbob: The Freesat is set a low volume option about a tenth of the way along the bar. I've done this so I can just use 1 remote (the freesat remote) rather than having to use the TV remote to control the volume.

So you have created this problem yourself then!

I suggest you set the Freesat volume to 100% (which means full sound output), and then use the TV remote to control the volume, which should then be consistent between Freesat, DVD, etc.

If you really want to use the Freesat control to adjust the volume then I would set the TV volume so that when the Freesat one is at 100% it's loud but not too loud. And then use the Freesat control to lower the volume to an acceptable level.
  • Espresso: no I haven't Im trying to make the best of a bad situation, SKY manage to have normal tv volume using their remote.

I unplugged everything and put it back together and now the volume is working normally. i.e the volume is playing fine on freesat when the Tv is set to 8, however I've lost any ability to change the volume on the freesat remote!!!. Does anybody know if theres a remote program procedure for Bush freesat boxes like there is with SKY to use the bush remote to control the volume?
    Hope that makes sense!

    Thanks
  • Ok, I've figured out what happened! In the audio settings on the freesat box, I had it set to 'Bitstream', if I changed it to 'Stereo' then I can use the freesat remote controls the volume, if its changed back to 'bitstream' then the TV volume overides the freesat volume. So I've changed it to stereo so at least I can just use 1 remote, even though I'm back to stage 1
