You have to read between the lines :( but I am guessing you don't and take everything literally

    Ah!

You know, I do try very hard to and I am always struggling and considering everything very hard to see if there is any implied meaning behind what it says.

Really? I'm sorry - your reply comes as a complete surprise.:):o:)
In which case - my conclusion is clearly correct - best left for others to spot and to let me know (in the correct way) so that I can then be able better to look after myself.:):)

Savvy, trust me it's not a bad thing at all that it all goes over your head :).
I'd say in that respect you have a definite advantage over the rest of us!! Just think, if it all went over all of our heads.....there would be no point of trolls an AEs, they'd have no audience :D

    Precisely what I suggested!:)

I'll continue obliviously posting lists and ignoring everything around me.

As regards Newbies, it's an interesting(?) point, as due to the 'be nice to Newbies', I'd tend to reply to them welcoming them. If however I've seen someone since allege (and I don't know whether truthfully) that such and such Newbie is an AE, I don't reply (if I was going to) to the 'Newbie' once I see that allegation.

After a couple of these allegations over various posts over various times, I am now almost never replying to any Newbie at all as they might be an AE. It just then leads to a culture of overcautiousness on my part (which, if everyone were to adopt the same approach, in theory as I know they won't in practice, would mean that no Newbie would ever be welcomed onto the thread as they'd never be replied to ever).
Unfortunately I have gone past that stage and generally, not always wait to see how their first 5 posts or so go :o. Its a shame but that's how certain people have made it on here (for me at least).

If we're over there then it's on the wrong day  as they do it on 24th, and mainly consists of fish dishes, poppy seeds in pretty much everything and the obligatory tripe soup _pale_
You need the vodka just to be able to cope with the food tbh

This year it's over here (hooray!) so it's done properly ;)

Savvy I think it's just a question of sitting back and noticing the sorts of things being posted. General rule of thumb is

    - poster has joined MSE and headed straight for the elite board (quite unusual as people normally stumble over here from elsewhere on MSE)
    - doesn't contribute shops/links/tips
    - seems to post things that aren't necessarily in keeping with what's being discussed at the time
    - posts begin to sound blunt/rude or overfamiliar, as if the poster has prior experience of the elite and the thread

I know, quoting again but, given what has been discussed in the meantime, I don't think there is necessarily a hard-and-fast list of rule points as the above might suggest. There's also social skills to this I feel and reading between the lines (you can't just apply the above rigidly - I think that's obvious even to me!).

(Doesn't contribute shops/lists/tips - how do we (or rather I) know? They might not necessarily contribute such stuff straight off but might take a few posts before they do so ('they were never an AE in the first place').)

Alright - thanks for this - keep whatever coming - and got to dash off - goodbye!!

Night Savvy, please don't take it as a hard and fast list. I said general rule of thumb in the hope that it might help you and anyone else identify AEs and should by no means be construed as a definitive list.

    What a revelation and eye-opener!:):)

I sure it wouldn't go over my head if someone were directly to abuse me. The more subtle things..who knows? As the initiated will well know, the history of people such as myself is one of being bullied at school (so I was certainly aware that people were bullying me, in order for me, way back when, to be capable of being upset). Toughened and hardened now, fortunately, as an adult!:D:)

I said it definitely wasn't a hard and fast list. [Edit: Oh, gawd, I'm considering what a "general rule of thumb" means now. A "general" one?? A "rule", not "rules"?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Best rest the mind...]

    Night everyone (I think:o:D:rotfl:).:wave::wave:

Im off to bed. Worrying about a missing cat :(
Brian hasn't been seen since this morning and more importantly didn't come home for his dinner this evening :(:( Have done a sweep of the area and am hoping that daft beggar has got himself locked in someone's shed or garage, it's happened before.

Meanwhile.....his arch nemesis is really missing him
