I don't usually watch it but I did tonight, and I have learned the following:

    1. David Emmanuel seems to be turning into Brian Sewell
    2. Matthew Wright is a BIG girls blouse
    3. Iceland sell something called a 'Beef Garland':rotfl:

    I have learned that
The Making of Dr Who prog on Thursday has him holding up an annual I used to own. Plus the original actor was my age. Plus so is the next Dr Who.;)

Beef Garland sounds like.....well I'm not gonna say what I think it sounds like.

I remain by my statement - you have changed the meaning of 'beef dripping'.

I can't speak for them as they don't include the BGs in anything like that, so I don't honestly know.

I think that as long as you ignore the troll/AE (and they aren't that difficult to spot really) they may well go away of their own accord - after all without an 'audience' their sole purpose here is pointless. By doing that you may well find there is less need to report repeatedly.

Redfox's posting tonight has reminded me of this from a couple of days ago.

Regarding the FT, perhaps one (but only one) of us should ask them the question, it was a good question in the first place.

Regarding trolls/AEs and "they aren't that difficult to spot really", seriously and honestly I have no clue as to how to spot AEs (at any rate) and apologise in advance if I unknowingly reply to any. It's probably easier to spot a troll although, even there, I'm not too sure sometimes - not sure when people are seriously trying to pull my leg and mildly insult me (if so, any such insult goes over my head, probably a good thing) and when they are friendly joking. Even one or two of the regulars:eek: on here could be defined as 'trolls' on occasion. As far as I know, I've never come across a real troll (I'm excluding regulars from that definition, as they being friendly rather than trolling me) and as long as I've no problem, and no-one else has, I don't see a troll problem (although occasionally I come across the odd post here and there claiming that some post or other was obviously a troll, and I have no idea - either about the post said to be an obvious troll or about the veracity or otherwise of the post claiming the other post was obviously a troll). I have no idea who to believe, without substantiated evidence and a mere post saying something is the case doesn't, for me, qualify as providing substantiation.

    I don't know if I'm missing something.

As for AEs not being difficult to spot, I'm sorry to confess I have no clue! How do you spot a post is from an AE? (I'm not an expert in analysing grammatical usage and phraseology in order to determine if a post is by the same person as another. Maybe I'm trying to work it out in the wrong way - perhaps it's easy to others, but it's not to me or obvious to me!)

Perhaps Redfox, you are privy to some information that I, or 'the rest of us', don't have and therefore it is easy for you to spot AEs? It's certainly difficult for me to spot AEs, and perhaps difficult for others to spot them too. Short of actually putting up a big red sign over the relevant post saying "THIS IS AN AE", I don't think I would spot them! (And even then I'm sceptical about pop-ups that appear on the internet.) Unless when clicking on the username, it took us to their profile and there was a note there that they were an AE but, even then, I/we would have to click on their username to find that out, and it's extremely rare I ever do that (and even more rare when, as is the case, I'm not actively looking for them).

In conclusion, I've never seen anyone obviously disappear and for an AE to appear or, if an AE has appeared, I've missed it. It may not be that difficult to some, but to me, it is! (Am I to believe or to question whether a post that is marked as by a "Newbie" is automatically an AE, or that it falls under suspicion for being an AE, especially when we are told to be especially respectful of Newbies? I think the suspicion is best being formed, if it is formed, by those who possess the greater social skills to spot such things and are more adept in these matters than I ever could be. Best left to others to determine rather than me, and for some others to 'look after me' and help protect me from this sort of thing as I somewhat often find it hard to spot when or if I'm on the receiving end of it myself.)

Savvy I think it's just a question of sitting back and noticing the sorts of things being posted. General rule of thumb is

    - poster has joined MSE and headed straight for the elite board (quite unusual as people normally stumble over here from elsewhere on MSE)
    - doesn't contribute shops/links/tips
    - seems to post things that aren't necessarily in keeping with what's being discussed at the time
    - posts begin to sound blunt/rude or overfamiliar, as if the poster has prior experience of the elite and the thread
