[Edit: just skip this post - I've been bothering myself unnecessarily. Although rest assured it wasn't bothering me to an undue extent, I've learned to relax somewhat since I did that over other things some years ago.]

Well, if only I hadn't gone to do the shopping!:(:( I should have touched wood far more the other night - involved in a minor car accident in the car park. You know (or maybe you don't) how much I bother myself about these things - have I got the insurance, does it cover from the previous day if the previous policy only covered till midday on that day - have I informed them of obviously every minor scratch ever caused to the vehicle in any way, just a compulsive true-teller that just cannot lie to save oneself and has to comply with every rule no matter how minor, now Googling about whether I have to report to the police etc. And..after all that - it being a damage collision (damage to both) and I've given my name and address, etc., and all I was required to do, it looks like I've complied with every aspect of road traffic law but, yet again, I've gone to the detail and found the other driver is the one who I've 'caught out' as they gave their name and phone number but didn't give me their address. So, having bothered myself, they're now technically the only party under an obligation, in theory, to report the accident to the police as soon as possible. No one else except me would be worrying myself about this!

I'm sure these minor technical details are not even known to or even noticed by almost everyone else and that they don't need to bother with them and, if it'd been between two normal people, there'd never have been any worry. Does everyone always on every occasion comply with traffic lights, report every minor thing no matter how insignificant to insurance companies and bother with every technical and detailed theoretical legal requirement on every occasion?? I doubt anyone else really does this, so I needn't worry! I'm liable to be the one to end up being unable to get insurance cover at all if I continue being totally honest this way. I just can't help it!! Relatives of all kinds are just floored by how honest I am.

I think I need to take a more pragmatic view. (If the issue is raised, and I think it's very unlikely it will be, about whether I complied with every part of the reporting requirements, I can always then mention I was never given their address and therefore that they didn't comply with section 170(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 and were thus under an obligation to report the accident under section 170(3).):rotfl:

Society doesn't realise just how much its rules that it requires us to comply with and in theory we are supposed to comply with, how much I cut myself up about them sometimes when really I ought not to bother or worry that much. Phew, I think I'm okay!
