Well quiet day - been to Remembrance Service in the village and saw DD and DS in their scout and brownie uniforms. Lovely service in the church and outside.

Beautiful thing happened which took my breath away ...... 2 mins before 11 - see a large bird of prey (Red Kite) coming close, they are near here but not seen them over the centre of the village before. Beautiful crisp sunny morning blue skies. He went up on one thermal hovered and then just flew in a straight line slowly over the whole of the crowd in the street, went straight over the cenotaph! Then he disappeared and it was time for the 2 minutes. Forget the red arrows - absolutely beautiful, eery and awe inspiring. :):A

RIP Uncle Burt, In France - nearly made it home, would have been good to know you :( 03.08.44 D day Landings ...........

The Australian fish importers Association says the Mekong is actually very clean. Something which seems to be backed up by numerous journal papers concerning the river.

Iirc most of the scary stories online about basa/river cobbler can be traced to one original bit of urban legend/spam that did the rounds 6 or 7 years ago.
I've looked for a journal paper citing the contaminants, but all I can find are various papers looking at the (contaminant) effects that farming is having on the local environment, and various diseases that are common in farmed fish - including salmon and cod.
As always eating farmed fish is not without it's risks, but they are apparent in locally farmed fish too.

I'm happy to be corrected as I hate being misinformed, but I'm expecting science, backed up with peer reviewed journal references ;)

I just sent my OH to get the 3 meal deals but something has gone wrong. The discount came off for the 3 for 2 cornish mash but didn't work for all the meal deals, only £9 something came off for the meals (I think it recognised 2 but not 3 meal deals). He ended up paying £45 so has gone back in to sort it out.
