Awww, I would be the owner who would be happy to help you if we met on a walk. I have two very friendly labs who will play with any dog and tolerate lots of jumping on heads and a very dog friendly staffie who gets along with any breed of dog. If you were in Somerset, we could have a doggie play date!
  • Ohhhhhhh Elsien - he is absolutely gorgeous:D no wonder he was a *keeper*

I'd try to find someone to walk with near you - sure you will find someone

I'm meeting someone tomorrow whose dog is apparently awful when she first meets other dogs but if they stick around she calms down (fingers crossed!) So her owner is trying to find people to walk with

Maisie is pretty much anything proof so were going to give it a try

LS has a walk-date this morning... On a golf course.

Sticks and balls are his favourite things EVER!

Could you try the local rescues Elsien? They may have tolerant dogs that get taken walks that you could tag along with? One near here has an exercise paddock that you can book to teach your dog off-lead exercises.

Right, better start to psych myself up for what is about to happen...

After this mornings walk. I think we need to set up some stooge.squirrels as well. A fun time was not had by all, but one of us was thoroughly enjoying himself.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Hahaha! Been there with game birds!! She loved it so much, chasing them. Luckily, none were caught - I was stressed and couldn't stop her!

Ahhhhh can't help with that one ...... when I said "anything proof" that referred to dogs only :o

She's a little booger with anything else (cats, rabbits, hares, deer, squirrels, horses , cows etc etc) and is literally OBSESSED with birds:eek:

How about MSE members who may be near enough to meet up? I'm not sure Kiki is quite back to stooge dog quality yet (she used to be fab, but when her thyroid went iffy she started to be a bit reactive to some dogs) but I met up with some dog forum members and turned out one member's reactive/antisocial Akita cross really hit off with her, we met up quite regularly for walks and I ended up taking Casper along too. We don't meet up so much lately (because of Kiki's iffy-ness) but it certainly seemed to help her dog.

Well I am middle-ish if that helps. Although LS would only be able to meet other dogs off-lead to begin with until he had a good sniff of them to suss them out, and then he would be fine on-lead. He is the most backwards dog I know!

He did well this morning though, didn't chase a single golf ball! I swear he is a different dog off his lead. His manners are brilliant and he is actually quite sensible!

If you join Dogpages and post in the training section, someone may be able to help, by recommending a class, offering to meet you or give training advice (There are qualified trainers who post on there).

If a dog has problems, you really do need to have a trainer who knows what they are doing or any problems could be made worse. Some trainers have official qualifications and some just have a good reputation, but too many set up a classes because they think they know what they are doing ; these being the dangerous ones. (I have left a number of classes, over the years, because the trainers were useless : advocating punching big dogs, being unable to control his own dog, letting dogs in a class interfere with others... )

I take Zara to German Shepherd Rescue group dog walks - every walk there are new dogs that need socializing and they all do great TBH.

Perhaps find a similar group in your area on FB?

@Katy - you very far from Essex?
