I have a citreon picasso.thanks to some horrid person i now have to replace the spare tyre from under my car which he/she helped themsleves to.

I have phoned citroen and its going to cost approx £150(ouch).This includes the steel bit, tyre and jack(which they said i would need.Is this essential?)

Motoring is not my strong point....but could someone tell me how if i can do this cheaper?ie do i have to go through citreon for the parts or can places like kwik fit etc sort it out for me?

Any help appreciated.

Your cheapest option would be to go to a scrap yard & get the spare tyre from a picasso.

Expect to pay £5-£10 for an old wheel and trye from a scrappy

The Xsara uses 4x108 PCD which is common on a lot of other stuff like Fords, Peugeots, and other Citroens - just make sure you get one the same size

albertross...thanks for that info....im sure citroen said their kit was around
    £80!
Can anyone help me clarify if i can get the steel bit from other places other than citroen as i have just looked up scrap places near me and it doesnt appear hopeful.

Alsio...would the jack be tyre specific or are jacks universal.....sorry for being "a bit blonde" but dont wana get ripped off buying stuff i can nip into halfords for for a tenner.Citroen want nearly £40 for jack n case.

If you give your approximate location, someone will be able to direct you to a suitable scrap yard which is likely to have the type of wheel + tyre and jack that you need. You can always phone and ask. Only DON'T call it a "spare tyre". It's "a spare wheel with tyre fitted, and a jack". Dependent on the state of the tyre tread, you should get the whole lot for £40.

i had a citroen and mine fell off! the whole lot dropped off and skidded along the road so if that can happen they are probably easy to steal too! just visit a scrap dealer and avoid the citroen dealer. :)

Your cheapest option is to find a car similar to your own, and steal one from that.

yes. theres a steel wheel (unless you have the spare as an alloy wheel) then the jack should sit inside that in a box. there should be a cage that goes around that to hol dit in place and a huge screw which goes through it all and is tightened from inside the floor of the boot. probably too much info :) EDITforgot to say if ats not all really tight its quite easy to unhook it an dget the wheel out. thats probably how they saw your spare wheel was available (and why mine felloff)
