water Supply Pipe Repair

My water comapny has told me that should my water supply pipe spring a leak then they'll repair it even if it's on my property provided that:-
  • The front of the property is no more than 50m to the stopcock in the road
  • The diameter of the supply pipe is less than 25mm
  • The leak is not too close to the front of the property.

When I enquired how close is too close to the property they couldn't tell me. Does anyone know if there are any guidelines as to how close a leak in the supply pipe has to be to a property before they say no to a repair?

not all water companies do it, so there's no statutory rule or specification - it would be up to the water co to decide.

I'd suggest that if it was everso close to the house there would be difficulties with access making a simple repair very difficult or expensive. You might find your house buildings insurance will cover it - ours did
