Car accident this morning

Was involved in a car accident this morning. The car who was at fault drove off leaving me and another driver to pick up the pieces.
Luckily no one was harmed and my car suffered minor damage. The left grill was damaged which I've ordered a replacement part for £20. The van I hit appeared to suffer no damage other than scuffs on the bumper.
Obviously neither of us were at fault but the driver who was at fault and who caused the accident did not stop. We did not get the number plate or any details.
We obviously exchanged our own details but I don't intend to make a claim. But as the driver who was at fault drove off, where do we stand?

If he cannot be traced, and you don't have any details, then any insurance claims will be considered "fault" claims, resulting in a loss of unprotected NCD and excess.
You say you hit another car, if that insurer successfully claims against yours, then you will lose NCD, but if you aren't claiming anything for your own damage you will have no excess to pay.
All you need to do is report the incident to your insurer. Stress you are not making a claim, and are just informing them only.0 -
If you both believe the van driver to be at fault and are prepared to make a statement to this.
wait on the same Road, same time tomorrow with a pen to write the reg down. .
People are creatures of habit.Be happy...;)0 -
Did the van driver hit any of you? and can you prove he had anything to do with it - any independent witnesses?
So far there are two people who have crashed and trying to blame somebody else who may not have actually been involved in a collision. From a neutral point of view, you could both be conspiring to blame somebody else...
If you have no independent witness, he could have somebody who says he was 20 miles away.0 -
Sorry my post is probably abit confusing . I hit the van. Me and the van stopped. Another car who caused the accident and was involved drove off. We were both unable to get their number plate or details. Me and the van driver exchanged details. An opinion is just that..... An opinion0

I have bad news for you. I think the van driver can claim from you. But you have nobody to claim from, unless you can track down this other car. Is there any CCTV locally?0

A word of caution-always always report a car accident. I had someone hit me from behind. On face of it, all seemed well and car wasn't badly damaged. My daughter (passenger) banged her head and hurt her neck. Checked out and thought it was just whiplash until her vision started going a few weeks later. Turned out she had a brain bleed and was in hospital for 5 weeks and has had to give up her nursing course. Luckily I reported it to insurers, as this will be a doozy of a claim. She has walking difficulties, memory loss and eyesight issues. Neurosurgeon says this is a direct consequence of the accident.
So even if you think its all ok-report it. You could be worried about losing a little more than your NCD..:(Debts :Paypal £1981.32

How was the other car involved and how did it cause the accident?0

In what way did "the other car cause the accident"?0

We were all travelling one behind the other. The car In front stopped on a slip road to join a roundabout to the motorway??? Idiot, clear road markings to show you should not stop. Anyway that car decided to stop out of nowhere, van in front slammed on brakes slightly hit the car In front, I then slammed on my brakes and hit the van. Luckily no one was behind me.An opinion is just that..... An opinion0
