Which Dehumidifier?

Can anyone recommend a reliable dessicant dehumidifier? I’ve read quite a bit about these and was all set to order a Meaco DD8L however there’s too many reviews saying how frequently they break and how people are onto their 2nd or 3rd replacement. However, all dehumidifiers seem to be unreliable and incredibly temperamental, needing regular new parts and going back for repairs. Even which magazine (which I can access) only rate 8 of them, but they’re all compressor models and all bar the top 2 have rather rubbish results.

I've read on the condensation thread quite few of you guys use one. Which ones have you got?

    EcoAir DD122

Had a problem with my first unit (got it replaced), but now it works incredibly well. I'm emptying it frequently at the moment!

Is ecoair linked to Meaco? Reading the amazon reviews the ecoair seems equally rubbish, which is borne out by you saying your first unit broke!

I have a meaco. Works fine and gets the humidity down. It says it does 4 bedroom house but it only really does one floor of our two bed cottage. It's the first one I've ever had so can't compare it to others.

4.5 stars in 152 reviews? I would hardly describe that as 'rubbish'.

I had a defective unit which was replaced free of charge. I can't say if it will work forever, but it is working very well now, and I am impressed with its performance.
  • I have an Ebac but it no longer works and I have not got around to finding a replacement motor. Not cheap to replace either. Still, the money it's costing me to let warm air out of the house just to reduce the humidity, it's probably a small price with the energy prices as they are.

A new bearing would probably work but finding one of those could be impossible.

Its compressor type but its quite. I paid a bit more for one as I wanted one quite and reliable, and Mitsubishi have a good name for dehumidifiers. Before that I had a Matsui one which I must have had for around 15 years

My daughter has this one ad its a desiccant one

I have a meaco and delonghi, both bought from John Lewis as they have 2 year warranties. Only had them a month but both seem fine. I had a Delonghi dessacant one bought from amazon. I was really happy with it until 1 year and 1 week when it broke just past it's warranty!

We picked up an EBAC directly from the manufacturer last year. I think it came with a free 5 year warranty (or maybe it cost a little extra).

My research was similar to yours with so much feedback about them going after 2 years just outside warranty. Hence by going direct to the manufacturer and taking the 5 year warranty it means any issues are easily resolved.

    Are you sure?

I've been looking at a selection of dehumidifiers & thought the DEM10 used a compressor.
