1) The bunny as supplied by the butcher
2) Bunny jointed with heart, liver, lungs and 1 kidney removed -don't know where the other kidney went
3) Rabbit joints floured and ready to brown prior to casseroling.
4) Rabbit stew on the go
5) Cooked rabbit meat taken off the bones.
6) Meat combined with the rest of the stew.
7) Ingredients for suetcrust lid.
8) Pastry rolled out to fit casserole -I used the lid to cut round.
9) Pastry in place. Pop the lid on and simmer for 30 mins -it's like a flat dumpling.
10) Finally -finished pie -yum

My parents were newly married and just becoming parents at the end of the 40's early 50's so will have had to bring up us sprogs on rationing. (I can still remember the taste of the "welfare" orange juice to this day!)
Thanks again! Enjoy your pineapple!!!!:T :T :T :T
How I loved that welfare orange juice. My mum was a bit lazy and could only be bothered to walk the 50 yards to the clinic from the town centre to pick up the free juice occasionally, so it was a special treat.0 -

Congratulations Thriftlady-it can't have been easy feeding a modern family on rations .
My father-born in 1933-always said that he didn't notice when rationing came in. His family were so poor that they couldn't afford things like butter anyway and they lived on rabbit and home grown veg before the war.He can remember the bad winter of 1947 too-he says that the only day they ever had off school due to bad weather was when the snow drifts were so high that the school bus couldn't get through. The area round his village was badly hit by the floods that year. Lots of houses in the fen had to be evacuated when the Ouse burst it's banks.1 -
............to Thriftlasy, daisyroots and everyone who has made this such interesting reading1
