If you follow the advice in the comping guide there would be no need to even discuss making up false end dates.

It's not exactly 'making up false end dates' if a comp ends say at 7am in the morning and someone more helpfully puts the end date as midnight the night before, it makes more sense, whatever the god like comping guide says....

Of course that's making up a false date, if it closes sometime on the 20th then the 20th is the closing date.

If they are entered the day before the closing date they will take just the same amount of time to enter if as if all the dates had been falsified but without the need for the dates to be changed and still giving people the chance to enter on the actual closing date.

sometimes the weekly/monthly mags don't give a 'time',
just the date, but, they've been known to close earlier sometimes
especially the Yours ones that nanto3girls posts
(I used to post them & they often closed the day before)

the bella mag ones have been known to sometimes end earlier than the date given in the mag so if we put the day before date instead of the actual date printed in the monthly/weekly mags someone could miss out when/if the comps still live but has been put in GO because the date was given earlier :undecided

As far as I can see, the only people that would miss out on your argument FF would be those that would want to enter between the time the thread was GO'd and the time the comp ended, but I can't see it being that many, if any. The end daters would have caught it, the latest posters too when it first came up, for the ITV/Mag comps the ones that comp by popularity would nab it too.

On the other hand, I personally believe the only way you can end date with a 99% comp catch rate is my method above, to actually end date one day ahead and check for flash comps periodically throughout the day...say, 2pm, 5pm 8pm. It works on the whole for me, especially today, I was out all day til about 7, but in all fairness, I didn't miss out on too many, nothing to get het up about anyway, and I think I bumped only like 7-8 untimed ended ones today. Still meant I did over 300 08/11's though with maybe 30 today?

(If you were going to try that end datey method though, tomorrow is the best date to do that. get all of Sunday's done, and then move back to Sat, as hardly any flash gets posted on Sats, and in all fairness there's normally only around 100 that end anyway and it gives you a good base to crack on with Monday's on Sunday.)

This could be easily solved if every single comp host provided an end time; it could just be edited in the title. However, there's absolutely no chance of that happening so all you can do is provide a workaround and if you miss a comp due to an early AM finish then chalk it up to c'est la vie

I don't end date ren, I enter as comps are posted & only sometimes use the links provided by you & blu that you've provided in the past just to quick check I've not missed any,

my reply was to just try to explain to the ones who were asking if mag ops could put a time date..
    ie:
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=63698176&postcount=1
    (for the magazine comps)

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=63699248&postcount=11
(for the Yours magazine which is a fortnightly reg mag comp)

I never suggested you did end date, I was actually referring to your last half-sentence in your post above about those who would miss out. I then moved on to suggest a way possibly for end-daters to tweak so they don't miss too much.

    *shakes head and unsubscribes* Whatever.

I can see this heading the same way as the forum posting style changer that is this.

Let's just be happy that a comp is posted & most can enter. All this is making me dizzy :-)

I do appreciate that I am on the naughty step for tweaking the odd date here & there but let's not too hung up on it.:rotfl:

If comps are given a false date ending a day before the actual closing date the time taken to enter would be just the same as making sure they were entered at least the day before the real closing date.
By entering at least a day before the true closing date exactly the same result is achieved (and time taken) as if the date were falsified without the need for any fake dates.

Please don't apologise for starting the thread :)

I do understand I am very lucky in one way to have so much time on the board & others only have a small time slot to get as many comps done as they can.

I would go with the very good advice in the competition guide be at least two day's ahead so you don't miss out on as many & each week search for ITV comps & enter them all.
