The problem you will have is that most Blu ray players that have 5.1 output built in normally come as a package with the speakers which you dont need. The other option is scan Ebay for a secondhand one where someone wants to get rid of the player but keep the speakers that came with it.

Thanks,I didn't explain properly, what I meant was what blu ray players would have 5 ports for the speakers,1 for each

You explained just fine, but you appear to have missed some or all of the answers. You need a BluRay player and amplifier combined, or a standalone BluRay PLAYER plus a separate AV amplifier. From my previous -

"Ideally you need a player/amplifier combined, but these will be more difficult to find without matching speakers."

As another poster says, you'll find, brand-new, plenty of BR player+amp+speaker sets, but fewer occurrences of only the BR player+amplifier on its own.

Secondhand, you may have more success if someone is keeping their speakers and selling the BR+amp, but I'd suggest most folks will be in your situation - some element of electronics in the BR+amp has failed and they need to replace that, rather than any of the speakers.

Richer Sounds have four AV amps up to £200, and four BR players up to £85, so you should be able to achieve this with your £250 budget

So what's the alternative for surround for a TV,a soundbar?,a TV with built in surround,I want to spend no more than 250,also the cable wire is soldered, there is no connecters
    ,

Outlined in the post immediately prior to this - your old unit was a multi-purpose box with a DVD Player and an AV amp in the single box, with five separate speakers.

Your ideal to replace it would be a (BluRay Player + AV amp) also in one box, retaining the existing speakers. These may be difficult to find, for reasons stated above.

The standard approach is to buy two boxes - a BluRay Player as a a standalone unit, and a separate AV amplifier which powers your speakers. I've given you links to some examples from Richer Sounds above, but other retailers are available.

Also, just to add to my previous comments and whay I actually have at home. I would go for a separate blu ray player and AV amp. That way you can "plum" your Tivo into and enjoy surround sound with that.

One thing to bear in mind is that if you buy a separate AV amp make sure you "existing" speakers match the output.

As for the soldered end, most AV units accept bare wires so not to worry.

Could the faulty dvd player now be used as a surround amp and have either a new blue ray player or the tv connected to it?

Look up the user manual online, determine what inputs it has (if any) and come back and tell us ...

    Right

I have looked at the manual and there is a video input.

Blue ray players either come with co-ax or optical or sound output incase you dont have an AV amp that takes HDMI.

The Sony only has component (ie. 3 RCA inputs)

If the amp still works you could get away with a blu-ray player and you would also need a convertor.

This would cover both options (coax or optical)
