Bash it with a book! My friend had the same and did it... bodies are weird! :D

Edit to add: or go to a doctor... probably the more sensible route :rotfl:

Elsbells, after a couple of stiff drinks I probably would give that a go...but after a couple of stiff drinks it's s*ds law that I'd miss aim, wreck my fingers and then I'd really have something to whinge about! :rotfl:

I sometimes get repetitive strain injury from too much comping, particularly if I've also been on the computer more at work. Having seen various people having real difficulty further down the line, I now cut down/ stop comping until my arm and shoulder are better. Really not worth risking permanent damage.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Must have an "older" GP to recommend that option!!

    Here's some info on them
    http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G2-3406200184.html

Sometimes they'll disappear on their own but if its painful then GP may suggest removal (depends how persistent you are!). Or can be removed cosmetically at cost.

Hitting with a bible or heavy book may burst it but will hurt like hell and may introduce infection if skin broken and even more pain so not a good idea!

Most folk tend to just live with it unless its massive or sore I'm afraid
  • Thanks again Alidolly, I think I might give the "hitting with a book" treatment a miss! Thanks for the link hugely helpful xx

Thanks Hamsterfan, yes I'm guessing that whatever it is, is pressing on the tube that houses the nerves.

I do use RoboForm so I don't think I'm typing excessively so I'm guessing it's the moving of the mouse that is aggravating it. Maybe I should move my whole arm rather than just my hand.

Mine was aggravated by using a mouse - I had to have a new keyboard with a thing like they have on laptops

I have a new mouse as I have really painful comping RSI that went all the way up to my elbow very painful. I bought this mouse (link below) from Amaxxxxon and make sure that my wrist is flat as if my arm is lying down on the table now and this means I don't have to move my wrist. I am much better and it is more or less gone. Can highly recommend this as a comping mouse, did loads and loads of research and its brill, really light press to click etc

Yes, to to the doctor! Just to find out if there's anything you can do to prevent it getting worse, if it can't be cured.

I've got what I call 'compers' shoulder' - after spending too long comping my right shoulder and upper arm gets stiff and sore.

I have a lump on my right thumb and my right hand keep seizing up too and it is painful! It is comp related because that is the hand I use for moving my mouse! I have tried one of those soft pads but it hasn't helped! I wish I had an answer too!

I have a ganglion on my left inner wrist area. Its not as bad as what it was but if I lean on it my hand normally goes numb and hurts for a while after. I saw the docs about it (this was 10 years ago when I didn't know what it was) and they said it isn't removed unless it causes major issues so I've just learnt to live with it.

  • Sounds like repetative strain injury. My partner had a huge ball size lump on his wrist from throwing a ball (random but true!) and they said it was RSI and gave him anti- inflams which helped it clear in about a week.
