Sounds like you're doing a grand job! All being well, this will be a hiccup & he'll be on his own two feet in his own place again soon.
All the best to all the family!

Just an update thank you everyone. My cleaning and moaning paid of he got all his deposit back. He has been very cooperative so far and managed to get and had three interviews and been doing job hunting tasks everyday. He had sign on interview last week at job centre and has to go to hear his sanctions and sign on proper tomorrow. I think he is now aware of the mess he was in as he is so much brighter and more with it. He did say that he hasn't felt ill since the decisions were made and has realised that he probably was making himself ill because he just couldn't hack it they way things were. Sad but at least he is thinking about things. He has done a bit of a budget thing and we are having a money talk later.
He is eating regular and doing a little exercise plus helping out around the house. It's been a tough few weeks but its settling down now. Just miss the freedom we had when the kids were all away from home we had just managed about three months before all this happened.

tell him never to take a job in a call centre again. They are merciless and can destroy depressive personalities.
  • Sounds like he just needed the help and support only family can give. Good luck to you all.
  • Well nearly two weeks and he has had four interviews and managed to get two trial shifts with different food outlets and awaiting outcomes.

He is determined never to work in a call centre again and is working out what he thinks his downfalls were both working and living on his own etc and what he needs to do to not get bogged down again.

He has had to cancel all bills etc from his flat and Talk Talk are proving a real pain in the bum. Edf have managed to mess up but everything else is sorted.

Well then he will be sanctioned if he claims JSA as he left the job voluntarily, if he got sacked then that would be another story but it seems he will be sanctioned am afraid :(

Hope everything works out for your stepson :)

Forgot to mention, why did he have to give up he's flat? He could have still claimed housing benefit on nil income.

Quitting before you are sacked is regarded as being sacked.

As a single guy under 23 he wouldn't get any housing benefits etc as we live in the same town and As we are the guarantors we would be expected to pay the rent. With no money coming in the flat had to go.

23 year olds can receive housing benefit if they are the tenant. Guarantors are irrelevant.

My wife works with young people. If they all had parents who cared about their children in the way that you do, so many of them would thrive better. It sounds like your mixture of tough love when necessary and support is paying off, and I hope your son finds his direction and goes from strength to strength.

He got a full time job yesterday thank you everyone. He starts Tuesday.
Strangely he has been sent a letter that his jobseekers will be £56.80 a week!!!!

We were told that we would have had to pay his rent as guarantors but We are in a way glad he gave up the flat as it was a bit of a depressing hole in itself and I think that didn't help his mindset.

This is now a total fresh start for him and we will have a reference point for him if things need reminding.

I do like threads that go from desperation to jubilation on the one page.
