As for the news story, how about the Land Registry or the Halifax or even the Nationwide to show that house prices have risen or are they not good enough?0 -
Because we don't own the gas companies?
I dare say those with well insulated houses and shares in the utility companies are cheering on the price rises.
I own shares in utilities which have appreciated somewhat and have paid great dividends. I also own two well insulated houses. Sod it - I'm going to have a gin and tonic tonight.
Family on local news last night BTW. They've spent £70k on bringing their house up to the highest energy efficient standards possible for a retrofit and seen their energy bills drop about £600 per year. Even the chap from the certification agency thought they were mental.0 -

You've got to look long term though...in 116 years those improvements will have paid for themselves0 -

It would be interesting to know if all of the improvements were just to the thermal envelope or whether they remodelled the house while they were at it.
I see a lot of energy efficient homes on Grand Designs where they cost a fortune, but the money invariably goes on designer kitchens, £1k taps, glass bathtubs, marble bathroom floors, granite kitchen worktops, etc. rather than the kingspan insulation in the walls, floors and roof.0 -

Can't find the link to the TV but here's the certification news http://www.passivhaustrust.org.uk/news/detail/?nId=276#.Unz30vnCWSo
Looks like two extra bedrooms were added in a single storey extension.
TV news said £70k total spend. Pasivhaus say £1000 per square metre.
I'd imagine that with things of this type they could have achieved 75% of the savings with 25% of the cost.0
