....... firefly is in Spain - cartrawler in Ireland. So I am wondering just who to sue and where to sue....

Who did you actually have an agreement with for the car?

Thanks for asking the question. It feels like a complex answer.

It was booked via the Argus website, powered by cartrawler. So Argus were the car rental agent, and part payment was made to them. The initial agreement was made with them.

The car was provided by Firefly - and the balance of the payment was due to them. They were the ones to apply the disputed charges.
    arghhh!!!

So was your agreement with Firefly?

I think there were probably two agreements in place.

The first was with Argus/ cartrawler, made on line, from home.

The other was with Firefly, when we handed over the part paid voucher at the rental desk, and they supplied us with a car.

I think its just a bit difficult to work out who to pursue - so my instinct is to chase both for a resolution. I am pestering them to give me details of their complaints procedures. And the I will go to the European car Rental Conciliation service (firefly are members) when I have exhausted those options.

    Does that seem sensible?

You can't have two agreements to rent a car.

My guess is Argus/ cartrawler acted as an agent and your rental agreement was with firefly.

I think there were two agreements. An agreement with the agent, to provide a hire with a provider on certain terms, followed by an agreement with firefly, once we took the vehicle.

I believe the agent retains a responsibility to sort out overcharges.

Your comment(in bold) is quite wrong. I've booked a new BMW '1' Series direct for £18 per day. Full to Full policy. Have my own excess insurance.
I use an appropriate discount code in conjunction with Quidco.
Wouldn't even dream of using a Broker.

Hey Nifty - would you share your discount code? Hiring in Spain this summer and the price is eyewatering....

    Thanks!
