Is your number being withheld so they do not recognise it? It sounds very unlikely as you are presumably still using the service? Try prefixing with 1470

Has anyone considered that the customer number is also the password to access the account? That means someone could use your registered phone line to get your customer number then register their own number (which could be a payphone in the street).QUOTE]

It's true, but they must achieve 3 things that are difficult to connect together unless you tell them.

    1. use your phone
    2. know that you have a 18866 or 1899 account
3a know the number to call to obtain the customer number or
3b steal your computer and get past any password access you've put on

you rarely need to check the customer number except at home, so there is no point keeping that 08081 number in a mobile that could be stolen

BT automatically withheld our number and we can still ring and listen to our account number as well as making calls via them so they must be able to still "see" our number even though when we do make it is withheld.

Yes, that's what I thought. Usually the number is available to the call provider, but not to the destination number, though this seems to work differently sometimes on mobiles.

Thank you all. I have tried all the things you have suggested to no avail. I emailed the faults team who got back to me to say "It is now resolved" But it isn't so have emailed them again, so we'll see..

Cannot understand it really. Only 2 things that are different are that I have moved house and have got a new 'puter-could this be it?? But telephone number is still the same though.
