Focus 1.8 TDCi DMF replacing
Car has done 105K, 56 plate and the DMF needs replacing.
Any experience on what this should cost for parts and labour?
Local independent garage quoted £1000.
Luckily the car doesnt have a DPF.
Not sure that modern diesels are that money saving with such relatively high running costs.

Could be worth considering fitting a conventional clutch and flywheel, have a look on a Focus forum.0

Mine cost £700 for the clutch and DMF so that sounds a bit high0

Modern diesels are fine, it's just Ford seemed to make a total hash of the early TDCi engine in the Mondeo, and the DMF on the Focus. Blame the car, not the fuel!0

£600 -£800 is about average.

My wife's C5 2.0 HDI back in July:
LUK clutch kit, DMF and bolts £338 (carparts4less.co.uk)
labour £160 (took less than 4 hours)"Retail is for suckers"

You can buy the kits from eBay for about £350 + maybe a days labour. Could probably pull the price down to about £550-£650 if you find the right garage?0

Just thought it may have been possible on the Focus as I know of other makes where this has been done. I know that the DMF is designed to absorb shock loading but quite a few Freelander TD4 owners have fitted the conventional setup without any problem, perhaps the Ford gearbox is unable to stand the shock load.0 -

My Focus 1.8 TDCi is in the garage as we speak getting a new clutch and DMF fitted. For parts and labour at an independant i'm paying £590 (£430 for parts and £160 for labour).0 -

Yes. Its a valid concern. Theres mid life costs in there now with most of them - DPF, DMF, injectors, Turbos, etc that people dont expect. One of two £1,000 bills and you've lost any prospective saving you might have had.0
