High Orange Phone Bill!

Hi All,

Need some help please....

I Went to Ireland for a few days last month and have just found out that this months phone bill is £85!

I'm with Orange and when looking into my account the main cause seems to be data charges (105MB). Although I did use the internet occasionally 105MB seems a lot for the time I was there.

Turns out that my account actually has the 'EU Data limit applied'.
It clearly says "An EU data limit has been applied to your account (16MB for pay monthly and mobile broadband and 12MB for pay as you go) to restrict your data usage while you're travelling in the EU. This helps to make sure you don't come home to any nasty surprises.

Now I received no texts from Orange notifying me and my data certainly wasn't stopped at 16MB!

I phoned Orange and they said "The terms for the EU data limit are wrong" "The limit is £49 not 16MB".

Now unfortunately I have received that 'nasty surprise' and am not happy about it. Where do I stand with what it says on the website and my charges?

Any chance of a reduction with costs?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks

In fact the cap is €50 that is less than £49.
However, even £49 is not a high price to pay for a valuable lesson not to use data roaming unless you have a special bundle.
[STRIKE]Also, at 46p/MB, 16Mb per day for a few days isn't much less than €50.[/STRIKE]EDIT: ignore the last comment. I misread is as 16Mb per day, not per month.

But it states that the OP has a 16mb PER MONTH cap.

There is no question Orange should credit the bill. They advised you of a limit and you relied upon it.

I think it is Orange who need to learn a lesson - provide wrong information and you won't be able to charge customers.

OP, best thing to do is call and make a complaint. You may need to pay the bill in the short term to protect your credit rating but ultimately if Orange don't refund it then after 8 weeks you can go to arbitration (at Orange's cost) and you'll get it back then.

Why is that? How many megabytes does your Orange bill show that you use in a typical month when you are continuously in the UK? Divide that figure by 30 and multiply by the number of days you were in Ireland. If it's around 105, then it's about right.

In any case, Orange now charges £1 per 20MB for data roaming in EEA countries, so ask them to apply this bundle retrospectively. It would be unreasonable of them to refuse to do so, particularly as they failed to apply the data roaming cap.
