THINK I'm right in saying that you can't get free anytime calls from BT UNLESS you agree to stay for 12 months -its certainly the case with Evenings and Weekends calls package - if you go "contract" free (ie 1 month's notice rather than 12 month minimum term) you get charged ~ £3.50pm.
They changed the "rules" when OFCOM outlawed automatic rolling contract renewals - I suspect your mother will have had a phone call from BT at some point asking her whether she wanted to continue with the "free" calls package - if she said yes, this will count as a renewal.
As others have said ,£10 pm is a super deal for rental and calls -even paying a year up front is currently much more expensive!!!!0 -

Once we have provided the service, you may tell us to stop providing it at any time by giving us 30 days' notice. We will accept notice via a range of methods including phone, e-mail, online chat and in writing. You can contact us to give notice using any of the contact details set out on your last BT bill or any other means of contact we have given you, for that purpose. If you are switching to another provider through an approved process, the notice you must give us will be 14 days. We can stop providing the service to you by giving you 28 days' written notice.0 -

So when you give notice to BT do they cut you off when the notice expires? So is it best to speak to the new provider get a switchover date at least 14 days in the future and then ring BT to give notice?0 -
