Samknows? Does he really?

I've seen Samknows referenced on here several times as being the best/most accurate broadband speed service, but I've not looked at it before.

I just went on to it and for my phone number it says:

"According to BT Wholesale, your line is very unlikely to be able to support ADSL, although a 256kbps service may be available."

Which is odd, because when I go onto the BT Wholesale speedchecker, I get the following:

BT Wholesale Broadband Performance Test

Broadband Speed Test Results

Download Speed (Mbps): 15.20
Upload Speed (Mbps): 1.07
Ping Latency (ms): 38.75

So, Samknows says BTW say 256kbps, but BTW says it's actually 60x faster than that. Does Sam know, or is he just taking a guess?

SamKnows uses BT data sfaik - where else would they get it?

If BTw pass them incorrect data then that is what they'll publish.

So what speed are you actually getting on that line, assuming that it already has a broadband service on it?

The second one is an actual speedtest result.

    Yes, 15Mb since the upgrade.
Before the upgrade I was on 0.8. I'm over 4km from the exchange and some of the cables in the area are of dubious quality. (E.g. Aluminium)
When I ordered the upgrade they said I should get 4Mb, which is enough for streaming TV, so I was happy. When the OR guy came to install, it maxed out at 16Mb, but has since settled down to 14-15 most of the time.

When I see guys in here arguing about 40, 80, 100Mb, I sometimes am glad that I don't need that kind of speed to be able to work from home, do photo and video editing and watch TV. I must be missing out on something,... or not.

According to BTW, I'm getting 15Mb and connected to Cab 5.

According to Samknows, it says that BTW say I might get 256k.

I can confirm I am connected to cab 5 and my speed is in the region of 15Mb

Those SamKnows figures are for ADSL and as I said come from BTw.
