This issue has now been resolved.
For those interested, no additional commitment was imposed upon me, and I decided to take the deal.
The alternative was (so I was told) that when it came to the crunch, and the price plan was ended during the system change, I would be automatically moved to a price plan next up on the price scale. In my case, that would have been something like a £2 per month increase, and apparently I'd have no recourse as it's less than a 10% change in price.0
