My 24 month contract is up next month and I am happy with the phone I have. I am wondering whether I can cancel this contract when it expires and take out a new contract, get the new phone and sell it, and continue using my current phone? Any thoughts?

Downgrade your sim to PAYG with a better rate. Less outlay each month!0

Yes is the answer, although as Ossie noted a sim free deal may be cheaper and you can get a shorter minumum term deal.
New phone may come locked and that may depress the price too, ony way to be sure it to try it which means it's not a minty fresh to sell.0 -
Or you can call the dealer and they will tell you whether it's unlocked.0

You can, but any phone you sell is tied to your contract, you stop paying the bill, it gets imie blocked.
They did away with the free phone quite a few years ago, they are now "token payment" with the token payment taken on the last day of the contract.
Until then, it is tied.Be happy...;)0 -

You would hope they know that but my experience in phone shops does vary...0 -

This would only be true on a lease contract. for the majority of contracts the phone is yours from day one and would only be blocked in a case of fraud.0
