4TH Generation Ipod faulty after about 9 weeks but cant find receipt

Hi My teenage daughter used her birthday money to buy a 4th generation ipod from Argos early sept. Not sure of exact date and now it wont charge. Some people say its a common fault with 4th gen. We didn't take out extra insurance but surely it should come with a manufacturers guarantee? The only thing is we have hunted high and low to find receipt and cant find it. What can I do please? apologies if posted in wrong place.
Things will get better day by day.

Is there an apple store near you? If you take it to apple (make an appointment online at the genius bar, if you don't want to risk a long wait). They can see straight away (either by plugging it in to their computers or by entering the serial number off the back) when and where it is bought. Silvercar is quite correct, my lad bought an iPad off ebay some time ago and it developed a fault on the screen, we took it to Apple at the trafford centre and they swapped it there and then !There are 10 types of people who understand binary, those that do and those that don't !0
