i left it for two weeks because i didn't have the money and having had only two interviews in 9 months i thought i could wait, living on £70(60 after the rent and water ) a week means sometimes you have to pay the bills or buy food instead of spending money on shoes.

Sorry I have been out of work a fair time but I have plenty of shoes and I am a woman too. Ok not with the unbelievable size of 9 but still. I have plenty to use if I was going to an interview and I have not bought anything new clothes or shoes for over 3 years. I have worn all the ones I used to wear to work and or sandals plus not going out much at all saves them.

If you have such a large foot I would have always made sure I had some to wear to such event in case you cant get a new pair very quickly.

The WP may say they cant give you the £ for a new pair but they get the funding to help you but I have heard people with not passport that cant get the funding for it so therefore cant apply for certain jobs etc.

It is difficult to sympathise because you had choices. You decided that it was unlikely you would have an interview and therefore was more important to buy your daughter a new coat, even though you knew if you DID get an interview, it would be a problem not to have acceptable shoes.

Instead, you could have say to your daugther that you only had a budget of £x to buy her a coat AND you shoes on e-bay and gone for what you could get.

Surely you have to see yourself that it was your wrong decision making that has left you with your current dilemma?

You asked should the WP pay for clothes.

Well they can maybe but they don't have to. As I have said they have the funding but you have to try and get it from them.

  • The Work Programme are paid an attachment fee when you are referred to them and yes they should pay for your shoes. It is not an unreasonable request. I would tell them that you will be chatting to your MP which may persuade them to do it. If all else fails ask to see a jobcentre manager and explain your situation and ask to access the Flexible Support Fund for a pair of shoes because the WP will not do it. They can either say yes or ring the WP provider and ask why they are been such tight sods and hopefully the manager can influence them. I would also tell the WP provider that you will complain to the Independant case examiner if they dont help
    Good luck with the interview:j

You can only go to the ICE if you have lodged a formal complaint with the WP and they say if you are not satisfied contact the ICE. This can take over 28 days.

  • yes you would complain 1st to the wp then take it to ice but if they are refusing to pay it doesnt help with the current situation. The fact you can say you wish to complain and if it is not resolved to your satisfaction you will persue a complaint through ICE then its amazing how magical things can happen. They are paid to help got people jobs whats £10 when the saving to the tax payer will be thousands if she gets the job
