WP and interview help

Should the work program pay for interview clothes? my provider says no, the Job center say they cant as im on the WP. I have an interview outfit but the shoes i had died completely, the WP now want me to go to an interview on Friday wearing a broken pair of trainers and they want me to use my last £10 to get their as they don't have to pay for fares.

So i will no be able to top up gas, so no heating and cooking for a week for me and two kids just so i can turn up for a job looking like a tramp.

  • They may, they do not have to. Can you not borrow shoes from a friend, or is there a charity shop nearby?

Do you not claim child benefit and tax credits? If so these should be sufficient to feed your children. If for some reason you do not get these you can ask the JCP for a food bank referral.

well i would but my feet are size 9/10 for woman my friends have smaller feet, yes the tax credits feed my children(child actually as one is 20 and just gone back to college doing an access course so get no money for him) thats why i have no cash left until next week, Have been shopping and bought the 16 year old a coat and supplies for art college, then get call about interview.

also where did i say i couldn't feed my children????
  • It sounds like you need help with budgeting. Post on the DFW board for help with that.

Do you really have no other shoes than some broken trainers? If so, look in charity shops, local listings on freecycle, eBay, gumtree etc.

i have the food, just not the gas, i can feed then just not cooked hot food. if i go to the interview, i don't need help with budgeting i budget just fine, this is an unexpected expense, all i want to know is should the WP provider help with clothes/travel expenses, they say no but are the correct.

Answered in post 2, they may provide funding but they are not obliged to.

and no the only shoes i have are two pair of flip flops and a broken pair of trainers. I have been underemployed for two years all other shoes have died and been binned. I throw the last pair of shoes out last week not expecting an interview with a few days notice
