Noisy birds

Hello
Today I met my new neighbours, they've been renovating their house before moving in and he asked me if we had a bird as at one point he thought there was one in the chimney flu and they've had it capped.
I told him I have a pair of lovebirds and I was sorry if they are noisy, he said he wasn't complaining at all merely asking.
Just made me think though, because sometimes they are loud and I've no idea what they are like when I'm at work.
If you could hear them what would you do? I don't want to upset anyone but I love my birds!

I have three parrots as well, in an apartment building, no one has complained yet. They can be loud when you're in there with them but go outside and close the door and you can hardly hear them, and what you can hear sounds very different. If he's not complaining don't worry about it.
You can never shut them up totally (of course
) but ensuring they have lots of things to do will help keep the volume down, and they often appreciate a quiet radio left on or other background noise. If they're next to a wall that's shared with next door, you can move them, or put up corkboard or something to dampen sound. 0 -
He's said he's not complaining, so leave it at that and worry about it if he does.
If I heard birds, I'd want to check they were next door's pets and not getting down a chimney I thought was capped!
If they do become a problem, look into soundproofing your house/their cage when you're not in, or move them if they're on the wall next to your neighbour's house. Maybe you have a deaf old lady the other side?!
Try not to worry about things that may not be a problem.

I wouldn't have thought that your two birds are anything like as noisy, as a pair of wood pigeons or turtledoves "going at it" on top of a capped chimney.;)0

Personally, I'd rather hear birds than any of the other noisy neighbour possibilities I can think of and would be intrigued to meet them.
Your neighbour doesn't sound upset but it could be a nice gesture to say you don't know how loud they can get while you are out and please give feedback if they get disturbing. ay this whenever you see your neighbour as some people will seethe with resentment and not talk about what's bothering them.
If the noise does become a problem, then surely the only option is sound insulation, NOT getting rid of the birds.

Thank you all. I know I shouldn't worry but I do! I want to get along with my neighbours!0

Record them on a laptop/tablet or similar when you're out. Then if they are noisy you can move them away from the party wall if you have one or take other steps to dampen the noise.
If all else fails, cover the cage.
Some people only exist as examples of what to avoid....0 -
When I was a little girl we looked after a parrot called Mary. Noisy thing it was, you could hardly hear yourself think. Mother used to put a towel over the cage when it got too noisy and we were glad when she went back home.
Just mention to your neighbour if ever there is a problem with noise from your birds just let you know. It leaves the door open and ensures no unpleasantness. I have often told my neighbour the same over my music. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Leave a bottle on wine on the doorstep with a note around the neck.
It welcomes the new neighbour but also makes him aware that you understand there might be a problem and will do something if needed."Welcome to your new house. We hope you'll be very happy here but if ever we're a little rowdy please tell Monty-Doggy and I'm sure she'll do what she can.

I had love birds in my bedroom when I was a kid.... Gosh were they nosy, especially first thing in the morning!!! I quickly learnt to cover their cage until I was ready to get up. I suppose that is something you might want to consider if they start going at 6am on a sunday morning.0

I be making loads of noise if I were trapped in a cage whilst every instinct in me was desperate to fly in an open space.:hello:0
