after a 2 year struggke, i was told today that i will be receiving middle rate care and high rate mobility ( previously low for both)
no longer will i have to choose between turning the heating on and being able to visit my grandchildren every week!
in the scheme of things $60 ( or indeed money at all) shouldnt make such a great impact on anyoneones life.
but we all know it does.

DLA have written and actually admitted that they messed up, and the very nice desicion maker i talked to today couldnt have been more apologetic. he said things should have been looked into way before now ( they kept making decisions based solely on the forms and not seeking professional clarification even after they were asked to)
EITHER WAY IM HAPPY THAT IT IS FINALLY SORTED AND MY LIFE GOING FORWARD WILL BE TOTALLY TRANSFPRMED!

I'm so pleased for you nannytone :)
  • Great news, and even better the money can be used towards your needs that are currently being paid for by the local authority, so someone else can benefit from their extremely limited funds.

derbyshire county council were pn the news a few days ago. saying that while other authorities were reducing care budgets... they were increasing theirs.
i know the cost has to be met somewhere, and i am happy that i will be contributing towards that cost!

it seems wrong that everything is all or nothing.
my income will almost double, when all i needed was a little more support. on low rate care you manage, but get upgraded to middle rate and they throw money at you ( premiums)
i also fulfil the criteria for support group ESA but wont apply because i want to work.
but if i was determined to take my 'entitlement' i could gain another £20 a week.
PIP isnt adressing this .... it will still be an all or nothing system, and that is what needs looking at

Congratulations nannytone, have you ordered cakes all round so we can celebrate with you?

The award has come just in time with the winter approaching & will make your heating bills less of a burden.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

im really lucky, in as much as my flat is a vew build and really inexxpensive to run... the extra money will mostly allow me to jave a degree of pleasure. i know this offends many non benefit claimants and i dont wish to offend anyone. but neither did i wish to lose my sight

It would be a very uncharitable person who would begrudge you anything nannytone! And why shouldn't you have some more pleasure - your extra money will enable you to have a few nice treats, and visit your family. :) This has certainly been a good year for you, with your lovely new flat as well.

I too have had some extra joy today. My DH has been awarded another hour of care! I think this is possibly due to the fact that a senior SW accompanied the usual one last week, after I'd had a particularly stressful night with DH, and when they said "so how are you today?" I burst into tears. :(

Enjoy your newfound wealth ;), and make sure you get every farthing of backdated benefit due.

    xx
