I booked my flights in 2010 with KLM direct to travel from Perth,Australia to Cardiff Wales return. We had to change planes at Kuala Lumpur and Amsterdam to get to our final destination.
Our flight from Perth to Kuala Lumpur in May 2010 was a code share with Malaysian airlines. After boarding the plane we sat for 2 hours whilst engineers tried to fix a technical fault. We then had to disembark and return to the check-in desks to rebook. We were told that we could get a seat on the next plane to KL which would get us there 5 hours late which meant we missed our connection to Amsterdam. We would then have a 16 hour wait for the next KLM Amsterdam flight. Alternatively, we could go home, ring the airport the next morning to book on that evening's flight(they couldn't do it for us there and then!) We chose the latter and went home.
The next morning I rang KLM who initially said that that day's flight was now full.I spoke to a supervisor who re-routed our flight through Singapore. We arrived at Amsterdam 23 hours late and at Cardiff 24 hours late.
I booked our journey directly with KLM and had one booking ref for the whole journey.Am I entitled to compensation?

If you read the FAQs you will see that it is the operating airline that you claim from
I appears your delay was with a non=EU airline departing from outside the EU so EU261 does not apply0
