Any advice? Where to go, what to do and see in and around, hints and tips to make the most of it? Have looked at TA but some MSE advice would be appreciated.

TIA.

You're probably better posting on the main overseas travel board rather than this one.
  • How long are you going for? Are you intending to stay only in Taipai or to travel around Taiwan.

We enjoyed going on the super fast train down to Kaohsiung, and the west side of Taiwan is different than the East (we cycled up the coast of the lower east).

Left luggage at the train stations is a great deal and very useful if you take too much or are on your way somewhere else, its just pennies for up to 14 days. You can also send your baggage to other towns and pick it up days later (we did this when we decided to cycle)

The hot pools all over Taiwan we did the Beitou ones just outside of Taipei and could not stay long in the hottest ones - unexpectedly the cold one was fab!!

Night markets, cycling along the cities river/canal, the gondola to Maokong and walking around in the cooler air.

Taroko Gorge is a day trip away as is Sun Moon Lake. To be honest there is sooo much to do, have you bought a guide book, what do you fancy doing? If you narrow down what your after i could try and be more specific
  • This may be a little helpful for tourists who wanna travel in Taipei:

    taipeitravel.net/en/

It is an official website providing travel information of Taipei. Taipei is a good city, mixing the modernity and tradition. In addition, Taiwan has been under Dutch, Spanish and Japanese rules, so there are lots of specific historic places in Taiwan, worth visiting :)
