Some good videos on Youtube on how to desensitize a dog to a headcollar

I use Dogmatic headcollars as I find they give me the best control for the size and strength (and behaviour) of my dogs, but I would be very relutctant to use them if the dogs were unhappy to wear them.
It's not too late to desensitize a dog to a headcollar if you already use one - just start from scratch, and perhaps try to avoid using the headcollar where possible until the process has been completed.0 -
We tried a few "non pull" (yeah right!) harnesses and a head collar but nothing worked.
We took advice and were told to let her know who is boss. We had to make sure she was last out of or into the house and not let her walk in front of us (not easy)
It took a few weeks but now walking her is a pleasure, the only time she pulls is if we go somewhere new and a few pull backs soon remind her.
She has been out today for the first time since having a tumour removed and we can't use the harness I was a bit wary of just using her collar but she was great.
It was hard at times but well worth the time and effort.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -

The dominance/pack theory has been disproved by experts. Chances are, you worked harder on making sure your dog didn't walk in front of you (i.e. pull) so as a result you trained her not to walk in front of you (i.e. pull) - nothing to do with who's boss or not!0
