Structural Survey Content

Hi,
Recently had a structural survey carried out on a property. The bank paid for the standard valuation and we topped up the amount for the full survey about £430ish.
Survey was OK and make reference items that needed to be addressed however these were quite vague such as "ground levels should be reduced to 150mm to ensure damp proof course is not breeched". Fair enough comment but it didn't say which walls this referred to or what the current measurement was. There were also some other similar issues to the one above throughout the report. I tried phoning for more information in order to take back to the sellers, had no response for a week so gave the report to estate agents who got a phoned and took another week to hear back from the survey who re-quoted what was in the report. Got it sorted in the end but basically surveyors weren't helpful which added delays to the process.
Also the report had no pictures or diagrams which I've since seen in other examples on the internet and that friends colleagues have had done which would have helped with the delay. Is this normal?
Are other surveyors this vague and unhelpful or is this quite common and what are the chances or getting some of the money back?

You get what you pay for, what panel of surveyors does the lender use? Did you research them beforehand? Did you explore doing it independently?
There are good surveyors and their are bad ones as with any profession... A proper building survey should tell you what the defect is, the likely cause and how to rectify it all in detail or whether further investigation is required?
What kind of diagrams were you expecting? Pictures or photos?An opinion is just that..... An opinion0 -
From what you have said (which is not much) I can only say that if a buyer came tome with a survey like that I'd say: "So?".
You're not suggesting you reduce the price on the basis of this are you....? :rotfl:
You buy the property; you identify the wall in question (can't be hard even if the surveyor IS uncooperative); you spend a weekend with a shovel and dig a narrow trench 150mm deep along the wall and part fill it with gravel..
